Everyone seems to revere ‘MILSPEC’ as the end-all be-all standard for making an AR-15… We look at MILSPEC as more of a ‘minimum viable specification’ without going TOO deep into it, MILSPEC is great for building a heap ton of rifles ultra fast to ship out to the Military that will be inexpensive to produce and run reliably in a number of different environments with an acceptable degree of accuracy. Our engineers and gunsmiths at Culper Precision started by closely examining MILSPEC tolerances and manufacturing processes. Then employing over 100 years of combined gunsmithing, accurizing and manufacturing know how, we slowly built, tested, formulated, and designed what is now the Culper Precision Patrol Rifle. We leverage our small manufacturer status to do what the big guys cannot. Spend time paying attention to the details. We start by sourcing high quality components, finding the guys that build the name brand stuff for the name brands, we buy their forgings, parts, and pieces. Then using our in house machining centers and more than a little elbow grease we tune and hone and perfect each upper and lower to hand fit perfection. You’ll notice that our guns do not rattle, the upper and lower are precision machined to have a nice solid fit without accu-wedges, and tension screws, we blueprint and square and hand lap every upper receiver before and after coating and press-fit the barrels into the upper receiver and tension the barrel nut to perfect torque. we squeeze every little drop of excellence we can out of each part and spend time perfecting and squaring and truing them which maximizes the function, accuracy and reliability we can get out of each component. Then we sell the completed rifle for a reasonable price because that’s what we do.
Staking the castle nut is vital to a rifle that you want to bang around in your patrol car day after day after day then require to perform at a moment’s notice. Keeping the center of the buffer tube concentric with the center of your barrel and the center of your BCG keeps your rifle running smoothly, accurately and reliably. having a loose buffer tube when you go to shoulder the rifle can cause catastrophic failure, not to mention throw your accuracy off and we know that in your line of work you don’t have the luxury of allowing an errant shot.
Instead of buying your own and asking the armorer to put it on for you or having to defeat the staking and install it yourself, we install the QD mount enabled back plate into your rifle here in the shop. Because why the hell doesn’t everyone do that… They should, we do.
Here in Utah our LEOs have to wear gloves on duty in the winter. If you have ever tried to manipulate the bolt release or especially catch, with a thick winter glove on, you will appreciate the enhanced bolt catch release.
Every Culper Precision LE series AR-15 comes with an Amend 2 Magazine. A local Idaho company that puts their efforts in the details just like we do here at Culper. We have a phenomenal partnership with Amend 2 and use their products in all of our testing and accuracy proving because they run like an old Bridgeport and are ultra light and not as susceptible to hot days in the trunk as the big guys.
